BlogEngine.NET 1.4 - What's the Status?

Update: Mads responded in the comments below

Let me begin by clearing stating that I think BlogEngine.NET is an amazing open source application.  I'm a strong proponent of this blog provider and the team behind it.  I have found that the platform is incredibly flexible and easy to use.  There is an amazing community behind the project - something I believe to be one of it's strongest assets.  Overall, Mads and team have provided the community with a solid ASP.NET blogging tool.  However...

I have delayed a number of extensions that came to mind until the release of 1.4 (see my lack of recent blog entries).  Mads Kristensen has a great post where he discusses the new features that will be available in BlogEngine.NET 1.4.  The widget framework really sparked some excitement on my part in particular.  In that same features post Mads writes that he anticipates the release to be sometime in late May.  Only 9 days into June I really cannot say that they really missed any hard release date.  After all, it is not like I am paying for this software or any type of support.  The last real update we have seen on version 1.4 was over two months ago though!  I think it is a fair to say that I am a little disappointed with the lack of any recent communication.

Mads, if you read this, any chance you can post even an informal update on BE 1.4?  I know that I am really excited about the upcoming release!  Thanks again for all the hard work that the BlogEngine.NET team and the community has done to get this next release ready!!

On another note, I have created an integrated Flickr Gallery using FlickrNet that works with BlogEngine.NET 1.3.x.  I will be posting a "how-to" guide tomorrow with all the source code.  Stay tuned!

Kick It!

Ugh...thats a tough blog post to write. I mean, I think everyone knows where you are coming from. Everyone who uses BE are very thankful for all the time and effort that went in to it, and I dont think anyone wants to come off as an ingrate. But, at the same time, people are chomping at the bit to help spread be all over the place, and that is really saying something.

Thanks for having the guts to bring it up, and I hope everyone understands that this is just a plea for info and communication, not a bash attempt.

Im pretty excited about the next version, and I think some of that eagerness can be misconstrewed as impatients, which is not what this is about. At least in my opinion.

@Jesse - You hit the nail on the head! In no way did I want to come off as complaining. It is simply that curiosity killed the cat! =]

Have to say I'm new to BE, I decided to install it after reading a post on DotNetKicks and am over the moon that I can use LiveWriter to post everything.. I'm still looking at all the extensions, and will keep an eye out for your new extension.

Its great to see such a good open source project being done in .NET!

Hi Danny,

We are working hard on getting the 1.4 out and we plan to release in about a week'ish. Things have been hectic for especially me, but also for the rest of the team, so we won't deliver on all that I wrote we would. Instead, we are moving some of it to the 1.5 release. I'll write more about it on my blog soon. The widget framework will be released in 1.4. I've been using it on my own blog for a couple of months now.

I'm really new to BE, but having downloaded 1.4 I have to say it beats wordpress and blogger hands down. Just what opensource ought to be.
